Coaching Requirements

Booking Limits

Students can book appointments within the following limits:

  • One-on-one coaching in all subjects: Maximum of 2 appointments per week.
  • Math Drop-ins and English Conversation: No limit.

The booking limits are used to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to access the services provided within the Coaching Lab.

If a student is found to exceed the booking limits, that student will lose access to Coaching Lab services for one academic semester.

No-Shows

If a student doesn’t show up, they will be marked as a “no show.”

If a student receives two (2) “no shows” in a semester, that student will lose access to Coaching Lab services for one academic semester.

Cancellations

If a student cannot attend an appointment, they are expected to cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time. Students can use the cancellation link found in their confirmation email or the Coaching Cancellation Form.

Feedback

Students are encouraged to share feedback about Coaching Lab services. To provide feedback or discuss a concern, contact the SLC Coordinator at slc@algonquincollege.com

The coordinator will review the situation, connect with you as needed, and determine an appropriate course of action.

What to Expect

Student Conduct

Students are expected to follow the Algonquin College policy on student conduct (SA 07 – Student Conduct, which states that “all students and prospective students will conduct themselves in a manner that respects the rights of all members of the College Community and College property.”

Under SA 07- Student Conduct, Misconduct includes, but is not limited to, “Assault, verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment and/or other conduct, which result in members of the College Community perceiving threat or danger.” Please see the full policy for a more complete list of actions that are considered Misconduct.

What Coaches Can Do

Coaches support students’ learning by guiding them through subject matter without doing the work for them. Coaches may provide assistance in the following ways:

  • Review and explain key concepts
  • Introduce and demonstrate relevant software or tools
  • Help students develop effective self-editing and study strategies
  • Clarify questions and address misunderstandings about course content

What Coaches Cannot Do

To maintain academic integrity, coaches are not permitted to:

  • Edit or proofread student assignments
  • Complete assignments or tasks on behalf of students
  • Provide answers to questions from assignments, quizzes, or tests
