Peer Tutoring Requirements
Booking Process
Booking Requests:Â Tutees must submit booking requests at least 12 hours before the requested appointment time. Session requests, confirmed bookings, and session details can be viewed in the Calendar within the Peer Tutoring booking system.
Booking Status Notifications:
- Accepted: The session will show as “Accepted” in the Calendar.
- Declined:Â The sessions will disappear in the Calendar. The tutee should book a different time or choose another tutor.
- Pending: The session will show as “This event is waiting for a response” in the Calendar. If the request is still pending on the day of the appointment, the tutee should contact the tutor directly or cancel the request and book with another tutor.
Joining Sessions:
- In-Person Sessions:Â The tutor will confirm the location.
- Online Sessions: In the booking system go to your Dashboard, find the appointment, click “Actions” and select “Open Teams”

No tutor available? Submit a Tutor Request form.
Tutors who wish to receive tutoring must notify the SLC Coordinator at slc@algonquincollege.com.
Payment
The fee for tutoring sessions is $10.00 per hour.
Before booking, tutees must set up a payment method in the Peer Tutoring booking system by adding a valid bank card to their account.
After a tutee sends a booking request, the tutor can either accept or decline it.
- If the tutor accepts, the payment is processed at the start of the session.
- If the tutor declines, the tutee is not charged.
- If the request expires without being accepted, the tutee is not charged.
- If the accepted booking is cancelled, the hold on the credit card is released and the charges are cleared within 7 business days.
- If the payment fails, the tutee should contact the SLC Kiosk at slc@algonquincollege.com for assistance.
Sponsored Tutoring
Students experiencing financial barriers may be eligible for tutoring sponsorship. To inquire about available sponsorship options, contact the SLC Kiosk at slc@algonquincollege.com.
Once your sponsorship letter has been submitted to the SLC, please allow one business day for processing.
After your sponsorship has been approved, tutoring credits will be added to your account as coupons, which are used to pay for tutoring sessions. When booking a session, select the appropriate coupon in the Coupon field.
- One coupon = one 1-hour tutoring session.
Sponsored tutoring hours must be used in accordance with the terms of your sponsorship agreement. Hours cannot be carried over, saved, or used outside the approved sponsorship period. Failure to follow these requirements may result in ineligibility for future tutoring sponsorships.
Students who are already receiving another Peer Tutoring sponsorship are not eligible for Financial Aid Sponsorship.

Tutor No-Show: If the tutor has not arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time:
- The tutee is entitled to a refund. To request a refund, the tutee must email the SLC Kiosk at slc@algonquincollege.com within 7 days of the missed session.
- If the tutor and tutee agree to reschedule the session, no new booking request is required.
Tutee No-Show: If the tutee has not arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time:
- The tutee is not eligible for a refund.
- The tutor is entitled to payment for the scheduled session.

What Peer Tutors Can Do
Peer tutors are trained students who guide and support your learning. While they have successfully completed courses in your program, they are not subject matter experts and may not have all the answers. Their role is to help you build your understanding of the course material by:
- Clarifying concepts
- Assisting with understanding course content
- Offering study strategies
- Helping you work through challenging topics
What Peer Tutors Cannot Do
To maintain academic integrity, peer tutors are not permitted to:
- Edit or proofread student assignments
- Complete or correct homework or assignments
- Provide answers to questions from assignments, quizzes, or tests
One-On-One Service
Tutoring is a one-on-one service only. Group sessions are not permitted. Tutees who participate in unauthorized group tutoring sessions may lose access to Peer Tutoring services, and Tutors will not be compensated for such sessions.
Preparing for Your Session
To get the most out of your tutoring session, include a detailed description of the support you need when booking your session. Bring all relevant course materials, such as textbooks, lecture notes, assignments, and specific questions you would like to discuss.
