Admission Assessments

Admission assessments are tests used for applicant placement, ranking, or to demonstrate an equivalency to an academic program requirement.

Admissions assessments are available to people who have applied to Algonquin College and have been invited to test by the Registrar’s Office.

Many programs require an English and/or math assessment as part of the admission process.

The admission assessment fees are $50 CAD.

If you book through Meazure Learning (the virtual proctor service), there is a charge of $45 (CAD) in addition to the $50 (CAD) for the assessment, for a total fee of $95 (CAD). This additional fee for Meazure Learning allows you to take the exam at your own convenience (24/7) without having to wait for a booking time with an Algonquin College proctor.

All testing fees must be paid by credit card through the payment link sent to you by email from the Test Centre. Please check your inbox and junk/spam folders if you are expecting an email from the Test Centre. Should you not have a credit card available, you can purchase a Visa or Mastercard gift card to use for your payment.

Note: The HPAT, ESLA, ALSA, and IMSA tests are untimed, so Extra Time accommodations are not needed or available. If this is your only accommodation, you do not need to meet with an Accessibility Counsellor. You can book your test immediately through the ACSIS portal. See How to Book for video instructions.

You will receive a letter/email from the Registrar’s Office inviting you to write an admission assessment. For all Algonquin College programs, it is advised that you apply early and test early.

Admissions assessments are currently being offered with 2 choices –in person with an Algonquin College proctor or virtually with the virtual proctoring service Meazure Learning.

Find Out Which Assessment is Right for You

You will book your assessment through ACSIS. Watch this short video for instructions on how to book through this platform (the process is slightly different if you’re booking with Meazure Learning (Examity) or an Algonquin College Proctor, but both are done through ACSIS).

Make sure you study before you test! To help you out, please review these sample questions.

If Testing Virtually:

1. Clear your workspace of everything but your monitor, mouse, keyboard, blank scratch paper, and pencil. All other items must be removed from your table/desk. You must test alone in a quiet room without disruptions.

2. The following items are not permitted during the assessment: Calculator, cellphone, any other electronics, watches, ear buds, or headsets. You are not allowed to eat or drink during the test.

3. Be sure to have your VALID government issued photo ID ready (copies or photo or cellphone images will not be accepted). You will need to show it to your proctor.

4. The assessment must be completed in one sitting (breaks are not allowed).

If Testing In Person On Campus

1. Lockers will be provided if needed.

2. Be sure to have your VALID government issued photo ID ready (copies or photo or cellphone images will not be accepted).   You will need to show it to your proctor.

3. The test session is 3 hours.

The Algonquin College Registrar’s Office will determine if you are accepted into your program (this is not done through the Test Centre). Learners should refer to their ACSIS account for updates to their application status.

Unfortunately, sometimes you may not do as well as you hoped on your assessment. For most assessments, after you have written once and are not successful, you could be permitted  2 re-writes (total of 3 attempts) per intake period/semester (September, January and May). If you were unsuccessful at your assessment, please prepare before scheduling your next attempt (please refer Studying for Assessment Day) to help prepare). Testing fees apply each time you write.

• ACPAA (Advanced Care Paramedic Admission Assessment)
• ELAAP (English Language Assessment for Advanced Programs)
• EAP (English for Academic Purposes Placement Test)
