Youth Social Enterprise Showcase and Awards

The focus of the afternoon event is on youth. There will be a mini tradeshow highlighting some local NGOs, social enterprises and youth groups. Participants will be able to meet with them and find out more about their activities and programs. The afternoon will also include the presentation of the Youth Social Entrepreneur awards, as well as presentations from the Ottawa Community Challenge and the Lizards' Den Competition.

The Ottawa Community Challenge, (OCC) is a social innovation competition that brings together social enterprises and youth leaders to provide unique opportunities for problem solving and solution generation in the domain of social entrepreneurship.

Local social enterprises will challenge teams of students to develop and present innovative solutions to their current business problems…in just 48-hours.
The Lizards Den will be an afternoon spotlight during the CCSR Conference. Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa (CAYFO) will organise the Lizards' Den" contest, a challenge that will give eight young entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their social enterprises to a panel of "lizards". Whether exclusively not-for-profit or a for-profit business with a social enterprise focus, participants must pitch the initiative, highlight accomplishments, goals to measure success and why their initiative deserves to win. The Lizards will give feedback, ask questions and eventually determine the winning enterprise. Those that are not chosen to participate in the Lizards Den will have the opportunity to showcase their initiative in a youth tradeshow that will be going on as well throughout the afternoon. The trade show will be set up throughout the conference centre where attendees and visitors are able to engage and learn with the presenting entrepreneurs. The afternoon will be filled with amazing youth and their social enterprises, come show your support, attendance is free!

Youth participants will take turns presenting their initiatives to the judges, or lizards. Youth participants will tell the story of their project, including information on the purpose, goal, current status of the project, and how it all began. Participants will also project what the future holds for their initiative and tell the panel why their project is going to change the community.

The panel of judges will evaluate the presentations and the initiatives based on a rubric and ask any questions to the participants about their initiatives.

After all the presentations the judges will convene to discuss all the participants and choose a winner from each of the 3 age categories. The 3 winners will be announced on stage at the evening portion of the CCSR Conference in front of world business leaders.
