What do I need to get into the program?
You must be formally registered as an apprentice, and have obtained an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. You must also be currently employed in the trade, and must be released by your employer to attend the College.

How do I apply for the program?
You must register through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.

How do I get my uniform/supplies and toolkit? Is the cost extra?
Books, knives and supplies cost approximately $1,200 to $1,500 in the first year and $600 in the second year and can be purchased at Connections, our on-campus book store. Approved cook uniforms, embroidered with the School and College logo must be purchased at Connections.

When are classes held?
Every effort is made to schedule classes in a condensed format over Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays between 8 am and 9 pm, so that you can continue to work.

What is your policy on attendance?
The program follows professional industry standards for uniform, hygiene, personal presentation and behaviour. Practical lab courses have strict uniform and attendance standards and policies, which are mandatory to successfully complete the program.

Do I need to buy a computer?
Students are expected to have and use a laptop when registered in this on-campus program. Hardware and software specifications required by your program are outlined at https://algonquincollege.com/byod. Laptops and supplies can be purchased directly Algonquin`s New Technology Store at educational rates.

Do I need to take any other courses?
Completion of a St. John’s Ambulance First Aid course is strongly recommended. The cost is approximately $150.00.
