Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:
- Windows, Linux, QNX Operating Systems.
- Computer Languages: Java (SE7), JAva FX, jUnit and Web-deployment using Eclipse and NetBeans, C, C++, and Web-focused languages: HTML5, JavaScript, PHP and XML, C#/ASP.NET.
- Database: SQL, use of Oracle, MySQL.
- Data Structures: efficient organization and processing.
- Networking: Elements of Cisco Network Academy Program CCNA Exploration Networking Fundamentals.
- Systematic exploration of compiler design and parsing.
- Calculus.
- Software Design, Testing and Quality Assurance.
Suggested job titles:
- Junior system and network installer and/or administrators
- Technical support specialists
- Customer service support representatives
- Computer trainers
- Hardware and software sales and support
Requirements to remain eligible for co-op:
This program offers three optional co-op work terms. Qualified students with a minimum GPA of 2.7 and must not have failed/missed any courses previous to work term can apply for a paid co-op employment to gain valuable work experience and build their network within the industry. Contact your Program Coordinator for specific qualification requirements.
Additional Info:
If you are an international student enrolled in the co-op program, you are required to have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work-term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number in order to work in Canada. You are encouraged to start the application process in your preparation term as government processing time can take up to 4 months or more. Please refer to the Algonquin College International Education Centre for more information.
