Employer Responsibilities

Algonquin College Cooperative Education seeks employers who can provide:

  • a suitable work environment for a student which may or may not include an ergonomic workstation (dependent on the student’s program).
  • a mentor or supervisor to guide the student
  • a reasonable salary which compensates the student for their level of experience and skills offered
  • a job offer confirmed in writing
  • Workplace Insurance. Please contact the Co-op Office immediately if this is an issue.
  • challenging work assignments related to the student’s program of study
  • the encouragement to the student to return to school at the end of the placement (avoid turning a Co-op assignment into a full-time position)
  • a review of the student’s work term report and completion of a final evaluation (form provided by Co-op Office)
  • adherence to all Provincial and Federal Freedom of Information, Human Rights and Employment legislation.
