Emergency Funding
Algonquin College offers a limited amount of emergency funding for students facing emergencies where health and safety are of concern. Emergency funding is a last resort only. Emergency funding is not available to help with books, tuition, and other costs of studying.
Before considering emergency funding, please make sure you have taken steps to apply and maximize possible funding from other sources. This includes financial aid and student awards at Algonquin College and any funding options that might be available to you outside the College, including student lines of credit through commercial banks.
Emergency funding can be considered in situations that are short-term, serious, and unforeseen.
Short-term
This means situations that will not continue beyond a month or so. We can consider you for emergency funding if the limited funding will bridge a short-term need and allow you to get to a stable situation.
Serious
This means situations where the lack of funding will have significant direct impacts on you. Generally, this would be situations where your health or safety are at risk such as a housing or food crisis.
Unforeseen
This means that the emergency situation did not exist before starting the term. It also means that there was no reasonable way that you could have planned for the emergency.
