  • Algonquin College named Top Ottawa Postsecondary by Faces Magazine at its annual awards on Saturday, January 30.
  • Ontario public sector colleges, including Algonquin, will have a sexual assault policy in place by March 31.
  • The College’s Construction Research Centre is open for business following last Friday’s unveiling.

Wednesday

  • Rory MacDonald: The Algonquin Students’ Association is proud to present the UFC’s number 1 contender for the welterweight title – Canada’s own, Rory MacDonald! He will be speaking to members of the SA’s Gym, the Impact Zone, Wednesday, February 4 at 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Thursday

  • Ottawa Hospital leaders #FlashForward: Algonquin College students, working with high school students, created a series of patient safety videos as part of a program called “#FlashForward“. Students, professors, and College administrators will be presenting to Ottawa Hospital leadership about the program. Though this is not open to the public, a huge congratulations to all who worked on the project! Thursday, February 5 at 11:30 a.m., Ottawa Conference and Events Centre, 200 Coventry Road.

Friday

  • Campus Linked Accelerator announcement: Algonquin College will be joined by Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, as well as Ministers Bob Chiarelli and Yasir Naqvi and MPP Marie-France Lalonde for a special announcement related to the Campus Linked Accelerator program. Friday, February 6 at 10:15 a.m. in the Student Commons building.

Saturday

  • Basketball: The 11-1, OCAA East Division leading, AC Women’s Basketball team hosts Centennial College Saturday, February 7 at 6 p.m. in the Algonquin College Gym. The men’s game against Centennial follows. Algonquin College’s sports teams are operated by the Algonquin Students’ Association.
  • 20th Annual Hot Food Competition: The School of Hospitality and Tourism hosts this annual student competition on Saturday, February 7 in H building. The competition begins at 6 a.m., with food arriving to the judges after 10 a.m. and awards announced shortly after noon. Watch for results next week! (Video from 2013 competition)
  • Big Hit Bursary Dance: Ottawa-based southern rock band The Cooper Brothers perform at Greenfield’s Pub and Eatery at 8 p.m. Saturday as part of this annual fundraiser for General Arts & Science student bursaries at Algonquin College. More details.
