Algonquin College ranked first in Canada in online enrolments

OTTAWA — Algonquin College has the highest number of online enrolments of all Colleges and CEGEPS in Canada. The ranking was based on the 2018 National Survey of Online and Digital Learning in Canada and used enrolment numbers from 2016-2017.

“This ranking is a testament to our efforts to provide flexible options for all our learners and shows that they recognize the value of lifelong learning in today’s economy,” said Algonquin College President Cheryl Jensen. “Students told us that they needed more online options and we listened, providing hundreds of courses to help them meet their educational goals.”

Patrick Devey, Dean, Centre for Continuing and Online Learning, said the College is continuing to see tremendous growth in online learning, the result of students who want to work and study simultaneously.

“The flexibility and accessibility offered by online courses has been a key driver for the continuing growth in the number of learners who are opting to pursue their studies this way,” said Devey. “The results of this survey confirm Algonquin College’s status as a national leader in digital learning and further reinforces our continuing efforts at creating innovative, engaging, and personalized learning experiences.”

Devey noted that the College is using new technology, additional course-design specialists, more interactive elements and custom video content to enhance its online offerings, which include approximately 800 different online courses.

The survey found that Algonquin had 29,600 online course registrations, followed by Fanshawe College with 28,612, Centennial College with 22,528 and the British Columbia Institute of Technology with 20,492.
