OTTAWA – Algonquin College students registered in approved programs will benefit from free subscriptions to Shopify as part of the company’s Open Learning program.

Starting in September 2019, Shopify will provide free subscriptions to Algonquin College students. Business Management and Entrepreneurship (BME) is one example of a program that will participate in the partnership as Shopify and BME have the shared goal of empowering entrepreneurs.

“Shopify’s generosity strengthens Algonquin College’s position as a leader in experiential learning that will foster an entrepreneurial mindset and a hands-on approach among our students,” said Claude Brulé, Algonquin College’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Shopify’s platform offers our learners a powerful tool to develop their skills, business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.”

Shopify subscriptions come with many benefits, including tools to start, manage and grow their businesses. The platform also offers design and content themes for businesses, innovative business apps, and access to online industry experts.

Students are expected to engage the Shopify platform for assignments and extracurricular initiatives. “The great part of the Open Learning program is that it allows us to further help our innovative and entrepreneurial students achieve their dream of opening a business,” said Dave Donaldson, Dean of the School of Business. “BME supports students in making their first dollar while in the program and Shopify provides these learners with an easy to use commerce tool.”
