COVID-19 Self Screening App

Dear Colleagues and Learners:

Algonquin College is implementing the use of a digital self-screening tool for COVID-19 as an app within our existing Mobile Safety App. This tool will help to improve upon health and safety measures and coordination of access at all campuses.

It is clear that there will be a need for ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the College community and contribute to the efforts by public health agencies to control the spread of COVID-19. This need will endure, regardless whether College campuses remain in modified Stage 2 or return to Stage 3 requirements.

While our experience has been that College community members are exercising diligence in avoiding attendance at campuses if experiencing any symptoms, we realize that there is more that can be done to help support consistency of self-screening.

We are encouraging all members of the College community to take this week to download the app and become accustomed to using it on a daily basis. Commencing on November 9, 2020, any persons entering College campuses will be required, on a daily basis, to self-screen. Each day you attend any Algonquin College location you will be required to demonstrate that you have self-screened using the app or you will need to fill out a paper copy of the self-screening questionnaire at the designated public entrances for College campuses. If you leave the campus and return later during the same day, the same assessment can be used to permit access to the campus. The assessment expires after 24 hours and cannot be re-used.

If you already have the AC Mobile Safety App on your mobile phone, you will see a clickable link at the bottom of the screen to update the version of the app you have. The new version includes a COVID-19 Self-Screening option. If you do not already have the app, you can download the AC Mobile Safety App for an iOS or android mobile phone by using this link: https://apparmor.apparmor.com/clients/algonquincollege.com/

The app helps to determine whether you should or should not attend campus through your responses to a few questions. It generates a message to you along with a green QR Code if you are permitted to attend campus. This screen or “badge” can be shown to gain access to campuses. If you do not pass the self-screen, a message indicating you are not permitted to attend campus will be displayed – along with specific guidance and additional assistance information.

Further information as well as a privacy notice relating to the use of the app is available here.

Sincerely,

Colin Bonang
