Algonquin College Partners with the Canadian College of Health Information Management

December 20, 2021, Ottawa, Ontario —Algonquin College has entered into an official partnership with the Canadian College of Health Information Management, which will benefit learners and faculty in the health information fields.

The Canadian College of Health Information Management is a national, not-for-profit corporation that sets the accreditation standards for educational institutions and certification standards for health information professionals in Canada. Together with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA), Algonquin student’s institution-wide are now welcome to become CHIMA student members.

“The Canadian College of Health Information Management and its education partners deliver quality and innovative health information, standards and resources which will assist and benefit our learners in a variety of ways,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO of Algonquin College. “Providing our students with access to health information resources and making this available to our instructors to prepare students for real-world scenarios upon graduation is a beneficial tool we are pleased to offer.”

The partnership will also help enhance Algonquin College’s Health Sciences curriculum, including its Bachelor of Technology (Digital Health) and Digital Health Ontario College Graduate Certificate programs.

“Algonquin College is known for its innovation and experiential learning, both essential to drive the health information profession forward,” states Jeff Nesbitt, CEO and registrar of the Canadian College of Health Information Management and CHIMA. “We are proud to be partnering with their institution to support their faculty and students, and look forward to opportunities on the horizon,” he adds.

Staff and students of Algonquin have opportunities to provide research papers, articles, or briefs to the Canadian College of Health Information Management’s open-source public library. Students learning across all programs, such as Office Administration – Health Services, Medical Transcription, or Bachelor of Information Technology, are encouraged to engage with CHIMA to connect with its community of health information professionals across Canada.
