Message from the President – March 1, 2022

Dear Colleagues and Learners,

With careful consideration for the ongoing health and safety of those required to attend our campuses – and in line with Ontario’s 24 Colleges – Algonquin College will be maintaining its vaccine policy until at least the end of Winter term 2022. This includes maintaining our proof of vaccination requirement.

This decision comes after thorough discussions with local public health officials and the Chief Medical Officer of Health over the past week. As the Province lifted capacity limits in all remaining indoor public settings and discontinued vaccine passports as of March 1, it also provided businesses and other settings the choice to continue to require proof of vaccination.

Until further notice, our vaccination policy will remain unchanged – this includes providing proof of vaccination (two approved doses) or a valid exemption (as set out in our policy) and continued screening before being permitted entrance to our campuses. Masks also continue to be required until further notice. Please see this link for details on our policy and its requirements.

The decision to maintain the College’s vaccination policy at least until the end of the Winter term will allow for continued certainty for the employees and learners currently required to attend our campuses. Over these past months, you have adhered to our policy when coming to work and attending classes and have contributed greatly to ensuring a safe environment for everyone.

At our recent Town Hall, I highlighted that more than 18,000 people have used our Mobile Safety App to come onto our campuses, with 99.83% being fully vaccinated. I thank you all for your commitment to providing a safe learning and working environment.  All learners and employees are strongly encouraged to receive their third vaccine dose to help protect themselves and others. You can find more about the importance of receiving a third dose and where to access vaccinations at this Ottawa Public Health link.

Our goal remains to return our campuses back to their full vibrancy – and we will continue to work toward that goal with the safety of the entire College Community remaining our top priority.

Sincerely,

Claude Brulé
President and CEO
