Message from the President – Welcome Back

Dear Learners and Colleagues,

The start of the 2023 Winter term also marks the start of a new year, a time when we come together to look ahead, reconnect after a well-deserved break, and work together toward our goals and objectives. As we open our doors for AC Day 1, I want to welcome everyone and share some information with you.

For new employees and learners:

Navigating campus

  • Throughout this week (January 9 – 13), Here2Help booths with be set up at all major access points across the Ottawa campus. Take a moment to chat with a Here2Help volunteer for campus directions, and tips and tricks for campus life.
  • For learners at our Perth and Pembroke campuses who require assistance navigating campus, you can book a campus tour with Explore AC here.
  • Student information sessions. Explore AC will also be hosting live 45-minute Question & Answer webinar sessions from January 16 to January 26 to answer program-specific questions. Weekly general sessions will also be offered to cover our support services, student life and residence. You can register for a session here.

For new and returning employees and learners:

‘Clean Air’ campus reminder

  • Please be reminded that under HS10 smoking and vaping is prohibited on all campuses of the College, both indoors and outdoors, and on the grounds of any leased facilities that are within the control of the College. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping our campuses safe and healthy environments for everyone.
  • For those who want to curb their tobacco, e-cigarette use, or who want to quit using tobacco products, additional resources for learners and employees are available at this link here.

Health & safety update

  • We continue to monitor trends and messaging about COVID-19 for the safety and wellness of our Algonquin College community. As per recent communication from Ottawa Public Health, it is important to remember that COVID-19is still in our community, and we currently have high levels of Influenza and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus).
  • Although no longer mandated, we continue to recommend masking for learners and employees attending Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth campuses, as it is an effective method of reducing transmission, especially in situations where physical distancing may be challenging.
  • Precautions including handwashing, hand sanitizing and cough and sneeze etiquette also continue to be encouraged. In addition, we strongly encourage people to get their full vaccination and booster shots against COVID-19 and influenza, as advised by public health authorities.

I thank you all for your ongoing resiliency and contributions to making our College community such a wonderful and safe place to work and learn, and I wish you every success in the year ahead.

Sincerely,

Claude Brulé

President and CEO
