Strong demand for residence highlights positive start to fall term at Algonquin College

As learners settle in for the Fall 2026 term, Algonquin College is welcoming a strong demand for on-campus accommodation, with the College’s residence building now at capacity and a short waitlist in place.

More than 300 returning learners are living in residence this year, nearly double the number of returning learners who chose to remain in residence three years ago.

The continued growth in returning residents is one indication of the value learners place on the residence experience at Algonquin College.

“Residence is an important part of the Algonquin College experience for many of our learners, and the demand we are seeing this year is a positive sign as we begin the fall term,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO of Algonquin College. “What’s particularly encouraging is the number of learners who are choosing to return to residence for a second year or longer. That tells us they value the community, convenience and support that our residence provides as they progress through their studies.”

Interest in residence for Fall 2026 began building well before the start of the academic year. Algonquin College opened its Fall 2026 contact list in November 2025, and it grew to nearly 900 entries before the residence application portal opened in February.

Demand is continuing into the next term. This week, Algonquin College opened a contact list for learners interested in residence for Winter 2027, receiving several entries within its first 24 hours.

Historically, the majority of residence demand has come from domestic learners, a trend that continues this year.

With the Fall 2026 term now underway, Algonquin College is welcoming learners back to its Ottawa and Permbroke campuses, as well as learners beginning or continuing their studies through Algonquin College’s online offerings.
