Algonquin College marks 20 years of military geomatics training with program renewal
Posted on Wednesday, November 4th, 2026
Algonquin College is proud to recognize the renewal of its 20-year partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces’ School of Military Mapping (CFSMM).
The partnership, which began in 2007, helps provide CFSMM members with the knowledge needed to capture, process, disseminate and manage geospatial information, which allows them to provide geomatics support to the army, navy and air force. This geomatics support includes the measurement, analysis and presentation of geospatial data using cutting-edge technology.
“For two decades, this partnership has demonstrated the powerful synergy created by bringing military expertise and applied polytechnic education together,” said Dean Sandra Brancatelli of the College’s School of Advanced Technology. “We are very proud to play an ongoing role in preparing these highly skilled geomatics professionals who support Canada’s defence commitments at home and around the globe.”
Students in the program earn an Ontario College Diploma as Geomatics Technicians. Military Geomatics Technicians serve at military installations across Canada and abroad.
“Algonquin College has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to meeting the unique requirements of military training, working collaboratively to adapt and refine program delivery as needs evolve,” said CAF Major Danny Radford, Commandant of the School of Military Mapping, Mapping and Charting Establishment. “Beyond the classroom, the College has fostered an environment that recognizes and respects the values, traditions and service of military members.
“The longstanding relationship between Algonquin College and the Canadian Forces School of Military Mapping has contributed significantly to the development of skilled geospatial technicians and remains an important component of preparing personnel to meet current and future operational demands.”
As the College recognizes this major milestone, we celebrate a partnership that is built on innovation, applied learning and a shared commitment to the benefit of our community, country and world.
