Algonquin College joins national AI workforce readiness consortium

Partnership advances AI literacy and future-ready skills for learners

Sept. 16, 2026, OTTAWA, ON – Algonquin College is taking another step in preparing learners for the future of work through a new partnership with Amii (Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute), one of Canada’s national artificial intelligence institutes. By joining Amii’s AI Workforce Readiness Consortium, the College will provide students and employees with access to leading AI literacy resources, practical learning opportunities and a national network dedicated to building the skills needed to succeed in an AI-enabled economy.

“Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, workplaces and communities at an unprecedented pace,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO of Algonquin College. “As a leader in polytechnic education, Algonquin College is committed to ensuring our learners are prepared not only to use these technologies, but to understand them critically, ethically and responsibly in the real-world environments where they build their careers. This partnership will help equip our graduates with the practical AI skills, adaptability and judgement needed to contribute meaningfully to Canada’s evolving economy.”

By joining the consortium, Algonquin College is further strengthening its role as a leader in applied education, innovation and workforce development, while helping learners build the confidence and capabilities needed to navigate an increasingly AI-driven future. One of the objectives of the Plan is to “Foster AI Innovation: Position Algonquin College as a living lab for responsible artificial intelligence (AI) integration, fostering a culture of experimentation to equip our learner with future-focused skillsets, drive operational efficiencies, and support industry transformation.”

The initiative aligns with Algonquin College’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, which identifies Technology and Data Intelligence as a key strategic priority. The plan emphasizes leveraging emerging technologies to transform learning, enhance productivity and prepare graduates with the skills and adaptability needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

“AI literacy is quickly becoming an essential skill for success in today’s workforce,” said Julie Beauchamp, Senior Vice President, Academic, Algonquin College. “Our goal is to ensure learners graduate with the applied, hands-on education Algonquin is known for, complemented by the human skills, critical thinking and AI fluency they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world of work.”

The partnership supports Amii’s goal of equipping post-secondary learners across Canada with the knowledge and ethical competencies required to thrive in workplaces being shaped by artificial intelligence. Through the consortium, Algonquin College will gain access to AI learning resources and curriculum supports co-developed by college and university faculty across Canadian institutions and future collaborative opportunities designed to strengthen industry and discipline-specific AI literacy and workforce readiness.

Learners gain access to trusted, industry-relevant resources that help them understand how AI works, where it can create value and how to use it responsibly. Just as importantly, it gives faculty new opportunities to weave AI competencies into learning experiences that enhance career readiness and long-term success.

As AI continues to transform the nature of work, the partnership reinforces Algonquin College’s polytechnic identity and commitment to providing career-focused education while ensuring we maintain a human-centred approach in an increasingly AI-driven future. Through participation in the consortium, Algonquin College will collaborate with post-secondary institutions across the country to share knowledge and innovative approaches to AI education.
