Word Workout: Level Up Your Learning with Gamification

Two employees look at a computer tablet while surrounded by children's games.

Change is exciting, but it can also feel challenging. With the introduction of our new Student Information System (SIS), Thesis SM, and the accompanying Thesis Student Portal replacing ACSIS, we’re stepping into a new way of working at Algonquin College. This shift brings fresh processes and a new set of terminology. Think of it like learning a new language: it feels unfamiliar and daunting at first, but the more you practice, the more fluent you become.

And that’s where gamification comes in! By turning learning into a game with challenges and points, we make the process less overwhelming and more engaging.

Want to learn something new while playing a fun game? Try out this H5P activity ‘Word Workout – Admissions Status, Admissions Stage, and Admissions Component’.

As you “level up” your knowledge of the new system and its language, you’ll build confidence and improve your understanding of the new system and portal. Accurate, consistent language means less miscommunication and better support for learners, and that’s a win for everyone! This also aligns with what learners shared with us when the R3 Project partnered with Human-Centred Design Lab to ask learners what they want when we replace ACSIS.
