R3 Speak Up! September 28, 2021, New Terms: ‘Enrolment Level’ and ‘Academic Level’

Sep 28, 2021

The 4th virtual R3 Project Speak Up! introduced two new terms related to the Thesis (previously Unit4) Student Information System.

Samantha Atkinson told the 151 College employees attending the event that implementing the Thesis Student Information System means they will need to learn new terms, connect the reminder terms to their new and existing knowledge, and get excited about the new improvements coming to their everyday work.

Samantha introduced “Enrolment Level,” and “Academic Level,” explaining the crucial difference between the two and how these two new terms will be used in day-to-day College activity (see sidebar and presentation).

The concept of Academic Level is to progress

Learners may progress through academic levels, she said, adding that learners may also join the College at any of the three academic levels, for example a learner could enter directly at a post secondary level pursuing an Ontario College Diploma.

“Today, I want to share an example of a learner who may complete all academic levels,” Samantha explained. “An international student entering health-related programs at Algonquin College must complete the Introduction to Canadian Healthcare Studies program, an example of a foundational continuing education academic level. After completion of the ICHS Certificate, they progress to the two-year Practical Nursing Ontario College Diploma. After completing their Diploma and working for a few years, the learner decides to return to Algonquin College to pursue the Ontario Graduate Certificate in Registered Practical Nursing Operating Room Program.”

Holding a seat on the Implementation Committee, Samantha is the Regional Campus Representative, providing advice and resolving operational issues for the Project Team. This ensures an integrated, enterprise-wide view is brought to the business and technology transformation. Her participation on this committee, along with the participation of others, allows for continuous project implementation progression.

Credential/Degree Audit demonstration

Samantha Atkinson introduced the terms Enrolment Level and Academic Level, and Samantha Harris, Online Learning Administrative Coordinator, presented a live demonstration of how to view a student’s credential/degree progression. Samantha’s demonstration shows how to view a learner’s program progression in the new Student Information System from Thesis.
