A Quick Guide to Credit Transfer: What is Changing?
Posted on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026
Although not a big change like Student Self-Enrolment, the Credit Transfer process is still an important piece of the new Student Information System (SIS) puzzle, Thesis SM. From the language surrounding this process to where this feature will be housed, we will go over everything you need to know about Credit Transfer.
A Quick Breakdown
With the implementation of the new SIS, applicants and learners will be able to submit a Transfer Credit request directly within the Student Portal. All supporting documents and other relevant information will also be submitted through the portal, making the process more streamlined.
It is important to note that it will not be possible to submit a request on a learner’s behalf.
There will be no restrictions on who can submit these requests and when. However, there will be restrictions with applicants whose request has not been accepted.
Similarly, applicants must first be accepted before they can be placed in their program. This will help with processes such as Advanced Standing.
And of course, this process will be done completely in the new SIS!
Transfer Credit Library
Thesis SM has a feature called the Transfer Credit Library, and this is where Transfer Credits will be maintained. This is a change from how the process works today not only because it’s in a new system, but because it will no longer be maintained in Laserfiche. You read that right; it’ll all take place in one system!
Records from the Transfer Credit Library will also be displayed on the Course Master, which allows employees to see what Transfer Credits apply to a specific course. Transfer Credits will not be viewable anywhere else in the new SIS.
The Transfer Credit Library will not only allow one-to-one, but also many-to-one or
one–to-many logic when mapping Transfer Credits. This will provide greater flexibility.
Other Changes
First, what we know as Internal and External Transfer Credits will only be referred to as Exemptions. In other words, there will no longer be a distinction between the two.
Additionally, the Transfer Credit form on the Student Portal will auto-populate if there is a recognized record for that course in the Transfer Credit Library.
Forecasted Benefits
The new Credit Transfer process comes with some important benefits:
- Credit Transfer will be centralized in the SIS, which will streamline the process and reduce the number of errors.
- Everything will be maintained in the Student Portal, meaning external forms will no longer be used. This is a benefit for both employees and learners as it creates a more user-friendly experience.
- Internal Credit Transfers will be entered as Course Equivalents against the Course Master.
And that’s all you need to know about Credit Transfer! Although this change does not affect as many people as some other changes, it is still important to know about the different processes.
