Communicating with Learners about Thesis Student Portal – Part 1
Posted on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025

At Algonquin College, being learner-driven is at the heart of what we do. This is true for the R3 Project, where one of the five project objectives is to improve learner success and satisfaction.
Our Organizational Change Management (OCM) team is gearing up to support learners with the transition to the new Thesis Student Portal. We’re leveraging data-driven strategies recommended by the Human-Centred Design Lab (HCDL), which surveyed over 750 learners across our campuses. We also met with 17 learner-facing employee groups, including Student Support Specialists, the International Education Centre, and Academic Advisors.
Key Guidelines:
- Consistent messaging
- Simple language and visual aids
These principles guide all our communication campaigns, eLearning video tutorials, and online resources.
Communication Campaigns
Learners asked for consistent communication and messaging through various channels, including email and Brightspace.
Emails
Emails will feature banner images, links to relevant eLearning resources, and highlight the benefits of the new Student Portal.

Digital Screen Network
We’ll also use the digital screen network, posters, and social media to communicate changes, raise awareness, and promote engagement.

Videos
Videos will be used to share news about the new Student Portal. Check out this not-yet-released Student Portal for Students by Students video. It will be shared with learners before the new system is launched.
This is only a portion of what will be available for learners. Our next blog will feature online resources, including an eLearning Video Tutorial you won’t want to miss!
