The Motive Power Technician program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada is a diploma program that is delivered in 45 week, allowing students to get out into the workforce quickly and with the credentials to get their first job in the automotive industry.


Learn in state-of-the-art facilities

Our Motive Power lab is a state-of-the-art, 18-bay, 30,000-square-foot facility. Through our many partnerships with industry, our students have access to tools, equipment and facilities that are used in the industry today. Our facilities include Snap-On hand-tools at every workstation, lots of electronic vehicle testing equipment, and specialized trainer units that isolate specific vehicle functions and allow students to fault-find more effectively. Students also have access to a chassis dynamometer to monitor vehicles under various load conditions.


Use cutting-edge tools

Our students also have access to equipment that is ahead of what is considered industry standard. This equipment includes an advanced, miniaturized video camera system that can view inside various mechanical components, an optical alignment system for quick and accurate suspension measurements, and digital oscilloscopes for monitoring and troubleshooting complicated vehicle electronic systems. Our facility is 100% wireless, giving students instant access to a wealth of relevant vehicle information over the internet and through hand-held devices.
