Ottawa Campus – Health Services

Health Services supports Algonquin College students and employees through individualized and confidential health and wellness care.

By contacting Health Services, you can access physicians and nurses who can provide basic treatments for common mental health issues, refer to specialized care and treatment, and support ongoing care. They also have a mental health nurse and partnership with The Royal Ottawa through their Psychiatry Clinic.

Ottawa Mental Health Crisis Line

Your call will be answered as quickly as possible. On average, clients will have their call answered within 2 minutes, and will wait no longer than 10 minutes. The Volunteer Crisis Line Responder will offer support and, if required, can make a direct transfer to the Local Crisis Team with your consent (which includes providing your name, date of birth and phone number).

Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A crisis can include difficulty dealing with stress, overwhelming feelings, symptoms of depression, anxiety or psychosis, suicidal thoughts, or any concerns regarding your mental health or that of your loved ones.

Distress Centre of Ottawa

The Distress Centre of Ottawa contributes to a healthier and safer community by providing suicide prevention, crisis intervention, psychological stabilization, emotional support, information, referral and education services, without judgement, to individuals in need.

Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre

The Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre (ORCC) offers support for people who have experienced sexual and/or gender-based violence in the Ottawa region. They do this by offering individual and group trauma counselling, service navigation, psychoeducation, crisis support, as well as advocacy for clients and broader systemic change.

Sexual Assault Centre of Ottawa

Supports survivors of gender based violence, especially marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities,  Indigenous people, immigrants and refugees, racialized persons, persons from diverse  socioeconomic backgrounds, and those with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. SASC Ottawa strives to be a safe space for survivors of all intersections, and we believe a commitment to end gender-based violence is centred in the foundation of anti-oppressive values.

Youthline

LGBT YouthLine is a *2SLGBTQ+ youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario. We do this by:
  • Providing anonymous peer support and referrals;
  • Training youth to provide support to other youth; and
  • Providing resources so youth can make informed decisions.

Trans Life Line

Trans Lifeline’s Hotline is a peer support phone service run by trans people for our trans and questioning peers. Call them if you need someone trans to talk to, even if you’re not in a crisis or if you’re not sure you’re trans.

Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team

Community program under the Ottawa Hospital Mental Health Program. *Responds to calls from individuals, family members, and professionals in the community, providing support for mental health crises through assessment, short-term intervention, links to community supports, and liaison with other health and social service providers.

*Assistance and support is given over the telephone as well as in an individuals’ own home environment.

Ottawa Victim Services (OVS) provides emotional support, practical assistance, referrals and advocacy to individuals who have been victimized as a result of a crime or tragic circumstance, without judgment in order to lessen the impact of victimization. OVS is a community-based agency committed to treating individuals with courtesy, compassion and with respect for their dignity, privacy and diversity.

Ontario Emergency Rooms

Emergency rooms provide treatment of severe illnesses and life-threatening injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
If you need urgent medical attention for serious illness or injury, visit an ER. A doctor or nurse will assess your condition and decide on a course of treatment.

⁠Unsafe at Home Ottawa is a secure text and online chat service for women and members of LGBTQ2S+ communities in Ottawa and Lanark County who may be living through violence and abuse at home.

  • Get you the services you need for support
  • Cope with your situation during this period of physical distancing
