Academic advising is governed by the College Directive E31 and should not be confused with the process of course selection during the registration period. By consistently supporting student achievement, Academic Advising is both formative and developmental.
The role of Academic Advisor may be taken on by
- faculty (full and part-time)
- coordinators
- success specialists
- chairs
In linking student needs to College resources, the Academic Advisor assists in problem solving, identifying sources of information about college resources, and referring students to appropriate services. Through close contact with students, the advisor seeks to inspire students with confidence in their personal abilities by enhancing a sense of belonging. In addition, the Academic Advisor fosters growth and development in the student throughout college life.
