TechSmith Relay End of Life

TechSmith Relay will no longer be in use, effective immediately, and the TechSmith web server was shut down on December 31, 2020.

End-of-Life FAQ:

What is replacing Techsmith Relay?

MyMediaSite has been implemented to replace Techsmith Relay. MyMediaSite provides the same ability to use a screen recording software and host your videos via the MyMediaSite webpage.

For more information on how to use MyMediaSite, visit https://www.algonquincollege.com/lts/mymediasite/

Am I impacted by this?

If you have been a recent or regular user of TechSmith Relay (or Camtasia Relay) then yes, you are impacted and will need to request to retrieve any videos that you intend to keep using by sending an email to 5555@algonquincollege.com with the video(s) URL thatwill be transferred into your MediaSite account.

Also, you may have inherited a course that has TechSmith Relay presentations incorporated into it. Therefore, review your course content thoroughly and check for links to Relay videos. The URL will typically contain “replay.algonquincollege.com” and will also indicate the username of the original creator, e.g. “replay.algonquincollege.com/replay/kershar/…”

See “What should I do if my course links to TechSmith videos that I did not create?” below for instructions regarding these videos.

What should I do if I forgot to download my videos from the Techsmith Relay Server in time?

If you did not download your videos in time before the server was shut down, please create a ticket with ITS by sending an email to 5555@algonquincollege.com requesting that your videos from the Techsmith Relay server be transferred to your MyMediaSite account.

What should I do if my course links to TechSmith videos that I did not create?

First, determine whether these videos, or videos covering this content, will be needed beyond December 31, 2020. If so, decide whether you would like to keep the original videos or create updated versions by yourself:

  1. Check whether you are able to download the videos. If so, do this and then go to My Mediasite, log in, and use Add Media to upload the videos to Mediasite.
  2. If you would like to keep the original videos but are unable to download them, create an account on My Mediasite by logging into the site, and then send a transfer request, identifying the original creator’s username and the video links, to ITS (5555@algonquincollege.com).
  3. If you would like to create new versions of the videos, please review the LTS website for My Mediasite training and information.

If you need help with determining how to proceed (i.e. whether to keep old videos or try to replace them with new or updated content) or how to use My Mediasite to create new screencasts, contact Learning and Teaching Services – LTS@algonquincollege.com – to get advice, or set up an appointment through the LTS booking page.
