Funding Agencies

NSERCThe Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) aims to make Canada a country of discoverers and innovators for the benefit of all Canadians. The agency supports university students in their advanced studies, promotes and supports discovery research, and fosters innovation by encouraging Canadian companies to participate and invest in postsecondary research projects. NSERC researchers are on the vanguard of science, building on Canada’s long tradition of scientific excellence.


Ontario Centre of Innovation (Formerly OCE) Inc. drives the commercialization of cutting-edge research across key market sectors to build the economy of tomorrow and secure Ontario’s global competitiveness. OCI works directly with researchers in Ontario’s colleges, universities and research hospitals to identify innovations with commercial potential and pairs those researchers and ideas with partners in industry who can provide resources to drive commercialization and, ultimately, income-generating sales.


Innovation.caThe Canada Foundation for Innovation gives researchers the tools they need to think big and innovate. By investing in state-of-the-art facilities and equipment in Canada’s universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research institutions, the CFI is helping to attract and retain the world’s top talent, to train the next generation of researchers, to support private-sector innovation and to create high-quality jobs that strengthen the economy and improve the quality of life for all Canadians.


Ontario Research FundThe Ontario Research Fund – Research Excellence (ORF-RE) provides research institutions with funding to help support the operational costs of large-scale transformative research of strategic value to the province. ORF-RE provides up to 1/3 of the total value of a project with the remaining 2/3 from a combination of private sector and institutional contributions. Generally, the minimum support provided by the ORF-RE to a project is $1 million and the maximum support provided is $4 million.


Federal Economic Development AgencyFedDev Ontario was established in August 2009 and provided $1 billion over five years to work with southern Ontario’s communities, businesses and not-for-profits to address regional and global economic challenges.


Social Services and Humanities Research CouncilSSHRC supports research in all humanities and social sciences disciplines, including interdisciplinary and cross-sector approaches to important research questions.

Algonquin College Innovation Fund (ACIF)

The purpose of the Algonquin College Innovation Fund is to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation within Algonquin College by funding projects that will lead to productivity improvements, enhanced teaching and learning, more engaged employees, and student success.

PLEASE NOTE: Only faculty/staff of Algonquin College are eligible to apply for ACIF funding.
