How many program intakes are there?
You may start the program in the Fall (September) or in the Winter (January).

What is the duration of the program if I start in the Winter?
The Winter intake term runs from January to April, and goes through the summer from May to August, and restarts again in September to December and January to April.
The Fall intake follows the standard College 15-week term pattern: September to December and January to April for two consecutive years.

As a graduate, are there any program pathways available to me?
Yes! There is a new pathway program that allows you to complete the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Honours) degree sooner. Click link for details.

I am transferring from another program. Can I get credit for some courses?
Yes, you can apply for an external exemption if you feel that the courses are similar and you have taken them at an accredited college or university. Along with your application you will need to provide a copy of the course outline (syllabus) and an academic transcript to verify your grade in the course(s).

Is attendance mandatory?
It is highly recommended that you attend all classes, practical courses and labs. Algonquin College has strict attendance policies that are explained in the individual course outlines (syllabus).

Does my tuition payment include my books?
No. You will have to purchase textbooks on campus at the college bookstore. You will need a budget of approximately $1,000 CAD to cover your first year textbooks.

Does my tuition payment include my uniforms?
Yes. You are required to have a white kitchen uniform for FOD2200 Food Prep in level 1 and black service uniform for HOS2234 Restaurant Operations in Level 2 OR 3. Both uniforms as well as your Bar Kit and Kitchen Tools are included in your tuition fees.

What about my uniform and cooking tools – do I need them the first day of class?
No, all uniforms and required cooking tools are discussed in the first day of classes. They will be a requirement after that.

As an international student, do I need any proof of English?
Proof of English is an important determinant of your ability to succeed in your studies. If your first language is not English, Algonquin College requires IELTS 6 overall with no bands less than 5.5 or an equivalent International Test of English for our diploma and certificate programs.
