How is the program structured?
This one year program starts in September and students study for three consecutive semesters, finishing in the following August.

When are classes?
This is a fairly intensive program with 2 full days per week in-class and on-campus with internship opportunities taking place outside of in-class sessions.

Are classes online or in person?
Classes are face to face, on campus. In-class work includes team work, case studies, role playing, optimal use of technology and a variety of practical assignments. Students also work a minimum of 16 hours per week within the sport industry, gaining valuable skills and professional connections.

What are the advantages to studying here, in Ottawa?
The design of the Sport Business Management program at Algonquin College is unique. As the nation’s capital, Ottawa has several professional sport franchises and more national governing sport bodies and multi-sport organizations than any other city in Canada.

What will I learn?
In three levels of study, the curriculum provides cross-disciplinary training related to: sport marketing; ticket sales; sport economics; sport finance; entrepreneurship; sport tourism; event planning and management; the sport bidding and hosting process; sport business in the social context; customer service; legal aspects of sport; sport governance: project management; community sport issues; and sport management professional preparation.

Are there work placements?
The program balances sport-business management education with an intensive experiential work placement. Throughout the duration of the program, students must work a minimum of 16 hours per week within the sport industry, and most students work up to 24 hours per week.

What are the admission requirements?
Students require a college diploma or degree with at least a 60% overall GPA (C- or 1.7 GPS). It is recommended that applicants have some foundation in accounting and finance (i.e. at least one post-secondary finance course).
