Algonquin College Community and Justice Services Learners Participate in 24 Hours of Homelessness Fundraiser

During a chilly 24 hours, leaners from Algonquin College’s Community and Justice Services program spent 24 hours outdoors at Minto Park on Oct. 16-17 as part of the annual 24 Hours of Homelessness experiential learning and charity fundraiser. The event raised over $3,180 to date for awareness for unhoused youth while providing students with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations.
“Amazing lessons were learned,” said Cat Baron, professor, Police and Public Safety Institute. “The students reflected how difficult it would be to “live rough” and not have stability of any sort. They had some incredibly powerful conversations with community members and met many people who had lived through homelessness. They met with several graduates who came by and shared their journeys in the field.”
Donations are being accepted through the event’s GoFundMe campaign.
