Annual CJS event raises close to $5,000 for Operation Come Home

On Oct. 17, 2025, Community and Justice Services students braved 24 hours outdoors in Minto Park for their annual CJS 24 Hours ofStudents from CJS Homelessness event. The goal was to raise awareness and funds for Operation Come Home, an agency supporting youth in Ottawa. This is the fourteenth year learners have spent 24 hours on the streets in downtown Ottawa.

For one full day and night, our students experience — on a small scale — what it means to go without basic needs many of us take for granted: food, shelter, warmth and comfort.

This event is more than a fundraiser; it is a powerful learning experience. It helps future frontline workers in community and justice services develop compassion, awareness and insight they will carry into their careers supporting people impacted by poverty, homelessness, addiction and the criminal justice system.

Funds raised will go to Operation Come Home’s vital programs including housing, employment and education initiatives that prevent youth from becoming homeless adults. A portion will also support emergency bursaries for our students, many of whom face financial barriers themselves.

Thank you to everyone who donated and showed their support! As of this writing, almost $5,000 has been raised.
