On Wednesday, Feb. 4 Algonquin College’s Mamidosewin Centre hosted an inspiring and immersive event featuring acclaimed actors Claudia
Jurt and Joshua Odjick.
The interactive conversation and workshop welcomed Indigenous students, alumni, faculty and a group of students from Algonquins of Barriere Lake for a conversation about the acting industry.
Joshua Odjick is of Algonquin-Anishinàbe/Cree heritage and hails from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinàbeg First Nations Community. Odjick has been honoured with two Canadian Screen Awards: Best Ensemble Performance for the acclaimed series “Little Bird” (2024) and Best Supporting Actor in the award-winning feature film “Wildhood” (2022), which also earned him a Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award. He most recently appeared in HBO’s “Welcome to Derry”.
Claudia Jurt, Owner and Head Instructor, founded the Intensive Actors Lab as well as her original studio, A.C.T. (Acting for Cinema & Television). She has worked as an actor, coach and teacher for over 25 years in cities all over the world. Claudia has worked in various aspects of film, television and stage, not only as an actor, but also as a director and on-set acting coach. Currently, Claudia works with a small handful of professional actors to prep them for auditions and on-set work in supporting and leading roles.
The event included a brief talk, two scene readings and a Q&A session. Attendees had a chance to meet and mingle with the guests, pose for selfies and ask questions.
