Meet Rayene Djeghri, a current student in Algonquin College’s Cardiovascular Technology program.
“My passion for healthcare has always run in my veins. I was raised in a large medical family, where caring for others was not just a profession, but a way of life. From a very young age, however, one organ stood out to me more than any other: the heart. The heart has always fascinated me as the true organ of life; one single beat has the power to sustain every other system in the body. Its precision, rhythm, and responsibility captivated my curiosity long before I knew it would shape my career.
This lifelong fascination is what led me to choose the Cardiovascular Technology program. I wanted a career where science meets purpose, where knowledge directly translates into improving and supporting patients’ lives. The cardiovascular system, being central to every bodily function, felt like the most meaningful place to make that impact.
What has impressed me the most in this program is the ability to uncover powerful clinical information from something as simple as an ECG tracing. A single strip of paper, recorded in just 10 seconds, can reveal an incredible amount about a person’s heart health. Every small detail matters, and each wave, interval, and rhythm tells a story. Learning to interpret these subtle signals has deepened my appreciation for both the complexity of the human body and the precision required in this profession.
Coming from a solid background in pharmacy and drug development, I was always curious about how medications work and how their effects travel through the body. That curiosity consistently led me back to the heart, the central organ responsible for delivering therapies, sustaining circulation, and ensuring the effectiveness of treatment. Understanding the heart felt like completing the bigger picture of how healthcare truly functions as an interconnected system.
Training in Canada, known for its advanced cardiovascular care, has further motivated me. Being part of such a respected healthcare system is both inspiring and a responsibility I am proud to embrace.
One of the most remarkable aspects of my experience in this program has been the dedication and mentorship of the Cardiovascular Technology faculty. The instructors go beyond teaching, they actively invest in our growth, challenge us to think critically, and support us throughout every stage of learning. Their guidance, combined with extensive hands-on training, has allowed me to build confidence and competence in a setting that mirrors real clinical practice.
I have also been deeply impressed by the organization and structure of the Cardiovascular Technology department. From the learning spaces to the lab environments and clinical preparation, everything is designed with intention and attention to detail. The simulated hospital-style labs have been particularly valuable, offering a realistic and immersive experience that prepares us for the professional expectations of the field.
To anyone considering this program, be prepared for a journey that demands commitment, discipline, and resilience, but one that is deeply fulfilling. This field holds lives in its hands, and excellence is not optional. Stay curious, stay organized, and embrace every learning opportunity.
If I were to describe my experience at Algonquin College in one word, it would be transformative.”
