Algonquin College Hosts Pan-Canadian AI Leadership Design Sprint

Algonquin College welcomed post-secondary leaders from across the country on April 24 for the Pan-Canadian AI Consortium (PCAIC) AI Innovation Leadership Design Sprint, held at the Ottawa Campus.

Co-hosted with Bow Valley College, the session brought together college presidents, working group leads and sector partners to collaborate on how artificial intelligence can enhance the learner experience, strengthen teaching and learning and support workforce readiness across Canada.

Opening the session, Algonquin College President and CEO Claude Brulé welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of collective leadership at a time of rapid transformation.

“Artificial intelligence is not only reshaping industries, it is reshaping how we think about teaching and learning, how we support learners and how we prepare graduates for a rapidly changing workforce,” said Brulé. “As colleges, we have both a responsibility and an opportunity to lead in this space, together.”

Throughout the day, participants engaged in working group presentations and collaborative design exercises focused on key priority areas, including student experience, teaching and learning, governance, operations and applied research.

The Design Sprint moved beyond discussion, challenging participants to translate shared ambition into practical, action-oriented strategies that will guide how colleges integrate AI responsibly and effectively.

“This is about turning ideas into action,” said Brulé in his closing remarks. “The work we have started today will shape how we collaborate across institutions and ensure that AI strengthens outcomes for learners and communities.”

The session is part of ongoing work through the Pan-Canadian AI Consortium, which aims to advance a coordinated, partnership-driven approach to AI innovation across Canada’s college system.
