Algonquin College marks International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

Twenty one people stopped by the Mamidosewin Centre on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026 to mark World’s Indigenous Peoples Day. Co-hosted withGroup photo for participants at International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples the International Education Centre, the event provided an opportunity to connect, learn and hear from Indigenous Knowledge Keepers.

Anita Tenasco opened the event with a welcome, followed by opening remarks from knowledge keeper Brenda Odjick.

Among those in attendance were Algonquin College President and CEO Claude Brulé and Knowledge Keepers Brenda Odjick, David Decontie, Lionel Whiteduck, René Tenasco, and Dan Decontie.

Attendees also watched three videos highlighting Indigenous rights and knowledge, climate and land stewardship and ecosystem management.
