The Algonquin College School of Wellness, Public Safety and Community Studies proudly sent a team of 10 students from the Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training to participate in the 2026 Ottawa Fire Truck Pull, organized by the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation in support of Epilepsy Ottawa and the Ottawa First Responders Foundation. The event brought teams from across the region together to demonstrate strength, teamwork, and community spirit while pulling a 10+ tonne Ottawa Fire Services truck.Algonquin College Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Students pulling a rope as part of the Ottawa Fire Truck Pull

Competing as the Fire Puff Wolves, the team represented Algonquin College in the Shawn Mathieson First Responder Challenge, which welcomes firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and those training for careers in emergency services.

The Fire Puff Wolves delivered a strong performance and earned bragging rights by defeating their friendly rivals, La Cité Incendie 2026/2027, in their race. The result highlights the dedication, teamwork, and competitive spirit of Algonquin College’s future public safety professionals.

Beyond the competition, the event provided an opportunity for students to connect with the broader first responder community while supporting important charitable causes. Congratulations to the Fire Puff Wolves and the Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program for representing Algonquin College with pride and embodying the College’s commitment to community engagement, leadership, and service.
