AC Rocketry club blasts off to Launch Canada rocket competition

On Saturday, Aug. 15, Algonquin College’s own AC Rocketry club will join rocket enthusiasts from around the country in Timmins, Ont., for Launch Canada’s annual rocketry challenge.

Launch Canada is a non-profit dedicated to the development and advancement of aerospace and rocketry innovation in Canada. Each year, it holds an event where dozens of student rocketeers from Canada’s universities test and display their inventions. AC Rocketry will be the first college team to participate in the event’s history, and its 11 members have plenty to show off.

Their rocket, Monarch, will be showcased at the event, with a goal of reaching 30,000 feet. Monarch is the club’s third rocket, following their first successful launch, Kratos, in October, as well as subsequent flight of Lykos in May.

“As we continue to grow, one of our core objectives is to help put Algonquin College on the map as a leading institution for STEM student teams,” said AC Rocketry member Nathaniel Rolland. “Through ambitious projects, national-level competition and industry collaboration, we aim to showcase the innovation, capability and determination of Algonquin students on a much larger stage.”
