Advertising Students Create New Campaign for Ottawa Senators Foundation

Ottawa Senetors adWhen Kyla Gaudreau’s husband “made” her watch hockey the other night she had no idea the ad campaign she helped create would air during a commercial a break.

There it was, the hard work of her and her classmates playing on TSN! The Advertising and Marketing Communications Management student was part of a team that included Adrianna Goyette, Maria Sukey, Nikita Cheng, Erin Storey, Matt Traynor, and Randy Gaudreau — the same husband who made Mrs. Gaudreau watch the game that night. Together the team of seven created the latest campaign for the Ottawa Senators Foundation.

“(The Sens Foundation) have amazing stories and they tell the stories beautifully, but especially at a hockey game, especially for the type of audience, we wanted to make something short. (We wanted) quick little bites of information, almost like an entertainment piece,” said Gaudreau.

As part of the Advertising and Marketing Communications Management program, the students run an advertising agency where they create ads for clients in TV, radio, print and digital media.
In the intensive three-year program, students start running DIG, the name of the ad agency, in their second semester. The students are split into teams with each team owning a client.

Gaudreau is the manager at DIG. She also interns at SLiDE, the place the Sens Foundation first approached about working on a new awareness campaign. The Managing Director of SLiDE, Kevin Holmes, didn’t think the College’s Social Innovation Lab was the right fit for the type of campaign they were looking, so he referred the Sens Foundation to DIG. And the rest is AC student history.
