With National Indigenous History Month set to begin on June 1, 2025, Algonquin College brought together its DARE6 partners PCL Construction and Nokia Canada at Mãdahòkì Farm on Wednesday, May 28 for a day of volunteering and learning.
Over 80 volunteers from PCL Construction and Nokia enjoyed the beautiful weather. They were split into groups and rotated through various projects including raking mulch for a new playground area, cleaning and preparing a trail site, building new benches, tidying the gathering spaces on the farm and painting.
“Andàgadj ondàmita! Excellent work! Kichi mìgwech – a big thank you goes out to PCL and Nokia for their tremendous work and support of the Mãdahòkì Farm,” said Anita Tenasco, Director of Indigenous Initiatives. “Algonquin College is proud to be a partner of such generous organizations that give back to an Indigenous-led organization in the Ottawa area.”
A fireside chat with Knowledge Keeper Eline Kicknosway ended the day after participants completed their projects on the 164-acre property.
DARE6 is a collaborative initiative Algonquin College offers to select corporate partners to support the College’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
