Algonquin College public relations students engaged on AC’s Ottawa Campus

Jeremy Coorsh and Fabiana (Faby) Ferraresso met in Algonquin College’s Public Relations program a little over two years ago — both coming to the program as mature students eager to take on a new challenge and opportunity. But they couldn’t even begin to imagine the lifelong opportunity that awaited them.

A year of friendship and multiple group projects later, Coorsh and Ferraresso’s relationship bloomed into a beautiful romance which led Coorsh to take a big leap — at the last class of their program, after a long day of presentations, Coorsh marked the occasion with a heartfelt proposal.

“I decided to propose to Faby at the College because AC is what brought us together and how our relationship began,” shared Coorsh. “At first it was just online, through Zoom and eventually I worked up the nerve to ask her out. We finally met in person on Feb. 4, 2022, and had coffee and explored downtown Ottawa. When the campus opened up again and classes became in-person, it gave us more of a chance to get to know each other and to spend time together.”

Coorsh explained that in terms of location, Algonquin College was simply the natural choice.

“Algonquin College is what made our relationship possible. Our friends and professors would be there, and it would make for a great experience, and it is something that neither of us will ever forget,” said Coorsh.

“I was really surprised, even though we talked about getting engaged one day I did not expect that one day meant ‘that day.’ I thought it would only be after we graduated,” said Ferraresso. “I was speechless, I got very emotional; I was really happy and excited that he [proposed] on campus.”

And it seems that this unlikely love story really is the product of perfect timing.

Coorsh, in pursuit of a career he was passionate about, decided to return to college to help himself navigate life’s next steps and find a career path that suited his existing skills and abilities.

“I was looking for an educational experience that would actually change my life and luckily that is exactly what I got,” said Coorsh. “I wasn’t looking for a romantic relationship when I met Faby, but it turned out that it was just what I needed.”

Ferraresso also made a major life change when she decided to attend Algonquin College.

“I left my country and my family in Brazil to study and pursue a new career in Canada. When I moved here, I was only thinking about studying and getting a job, but then I met Jeremy,” said Ferraresso.

Now, two years later, the pair are eager to start the lives and careers they’ve been dreaming of and reflect fondly on the unexpected gift of being able to do it together.

“I never expected my life to be as great as it is right now … but when you do not expect anything, everything happens. Now I’m studying, working and sharing my life with an amazing partner. We support each other, we make each other happy and above all we respect each other,” said Ferraresso.

Congratulations, Jeremy and Fabiana! Algonquin College is so grateful to have been a part of your beautiful love story.
