Cheryl Jensen welcomes new students with a phone call

For many students, finding out that they have been accepted into the Algonquin College program of their choice is a dream come true.
But it’s not often those students get the news directly from our president, Cheryl Jensen.
That’s what happened Tuesday night when Cheryl worked a shift in the College’s recruitment office, calling students to let them know their applications had been accepted and welcoming them to Algonquin.
It wasn’t the first time that Cheryl has taken to the phones in the recruitment office — she also did so last year, emphasizing that hearing the new students’ voices was a reminder about just why they’re so excited to join the College.
“Their excitement and just that exuberance about coming to Algonquin for the program of their choice reminded me and I know reminds all of us why we’re here,” she said at the time. “We’re here for the students and we’re here to transform lives … we’re here to give our students the skills they need for jobs now and for the future.”
