Eggs, the Affordable Superfood

First Annual Egg Farmers of Ontario Video Contest

Our culinary and baking students feature Ontario farm fresh eggs in many of their recipes

Did you know that eggs are one of the most nutritious foods available to us?

You might be surprised to learn about the wide range of nutrients, minerals, good fats and protein that is packed into one egg.

In fact, one large egg contains small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral the human body requires, including vitamin B, E, calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, folate and more. All of these nutrients are found mostly in the egg yolk, while the egg whites contain only protein. An egg provides 6 to 8 grams of quality protein and is only 70 calories.

They are also loaded with choline, an essential nutrient that protects against liver and heart disease, as well as neurological disorders. Eggs also contain antioxidants that can protect your eyesight, by reducing the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

An added bonus? Eggs are super affordable and a tasty way to complement any meal.
