Mother and her ducklings found in Building A Courtyard relocated by Safe Wings

Sandra McCormick, Chair Wellness and Innovation, is a wildlife and duck enthusiast. After spotting the duckling family on campus, she quickly inquired with Facilities Management about safely removing the mother and ducklings to their natural habitat.

McCormick, with support from Amanda Barr, Grounds Operations Coordinator, Facilities Management; Arlen Findley, Horticulturist, Caretaking and Grounds, Facilities Management; and Emma Slater, Technologist, School of Wellness, contacted Safe Wings, a local Ottawa program dedicated to reducing bird mortality from collisions through research, prevention and rescue.
Safe Wings has successfully relocated the ducks to Mud Lake, where they are happily swimming and reacquainting with their natural habitat. Without our employees’ intervention, these ducks would not have survived, as they were without adequate food and water sources.
Safe Wings is a completely volunteer-run organization. If you’re a wildlife enthusiast looking to get involved, please contact them at: ducklings@safewings.ca.
If you see wildlife on campus in need of support, please contact Amanda Barr, barra1@algonquincollege.com.
