January is Data Privacy Month at Algonquin College. 
The College community is invited to participate in this campaign promoting awareness about information privacy. This year’s theme is #PrivacyStartsWithYou.
Activities will include weekly awareness posts on myAC and social media covering topics such as email best practices, transparency, your role in protecting privacy at work and home, and much more.
Get involved by staying tuned for more messages in the coming weeks and taking a moment to visit the following resources: Stay Safe Online and Stop.Think.Connect.
Don’t forget to complete the online Information Security and Awareness Training to learn how to keep sensitive and valuable College information, including that of our learners and employees, safe.

Algonquin College Campus Services will continue to provide services to the AC community for the 2022 Winter Term, both to those required
to be on-campus and remotely. “We’re here to help,” says Brent Brownlee, Director of Campus Services, “Whether our learners are studying remotely or are required to be on-campus, our Campus Services teams are available to support our AC community.”

Food Services
There are three food locations on the Ottawa Campus run by Campus Services: The Marketplace Food Court in D Building, The 35th Street Market Café in Residence and The Fix Eatery in ACCE. All three have been open for service for some time but more food stations or offerings will become available during the 2022 Winter Term.
The Marketplace Food Court offers a variety of food stations Popular stations open during Fall 2021 offering all-day breakfast options, burgers, sandwiches, coffee and pastries, pizza, daily Chef’s Choice features (including vegetarian options), will continue to operate in the 2022 Winter Term.
Food Services continues to work towards opening more stations at the Marketplace Food Court, taking into account College and Ottawa Public Health directives.

Protecting the privacy and security of employee and learner information at Algonquin College is everyone’s job. Data Privacy Month in
January exists to ensure every member of the College community has the knowledge and tools to do the job well.
The College employs its Cyber Security Unit (CSU) to protect learner and employee privacy. Senior Privacy Specialist Stefano Bianco says the team is engaged full-time in deploying state-of-the-art safeguards and technology that scans the College computer network for attacks in real time.
“There are thousands of attacks that our safeguards detect and intercept every day,” Bianco says, “but we still need the College community to be aware and alert and do its part to keep our systems secure.”
When people let down their guard, systems can be compromised. In the last phishing incident, the attackers used compromised accounts to send emails asking people to input their College credentials in a Google form.
“You will never receive an email from the College asking you to do this,” Bianco says. “No College employee will ask you for your College credentials and say they need them to fix something.”
