Students spotlight Indigenous aesthetics in art showcase

Indigenous Studies students presented their work at a special showcase on April 17 in Nawapon.

The exhibit featured original pieces created in the course Indigenous Arts: Aesthetics, Culture and Reclamation. Over the winter term, students explored a wide range of Indigenous artistic traditions across First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. They worked with materials like pencil crayons, markers, clay, paint, hide, rocks and wool, while also learning about music, dance and theatre. The showcase focused on their visual art, but it reflected that broader learning. Read more >

Innovation with purpose

Algonquin College student Olivier Niyonshima competed this past weekend at the Hult Prize Canadian finals at McGill University inOlivier competing at the Hult Prize competition in Montreal Montreal. He advanced to the national stage and described the experience as both valuable and motivating.

The Hult Prize is one of the world’s largest student entrepreneurship competitions. Each year, it challenges young innovators to build social enterprises that address global issues. The winning team receives one million dollars in seed funding to launch or scale their venture. National finalists, like Niyonshima, competed for the chance to represent their country at the global accelerator. Read more >

Meet Gabriel Le Houillier: Balancing hockey dreams and academic success through AC Online

Meet Gabriel Le Houillier, a twenty-year-old Rockland Nationals hockey player in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). Le Houillier aspires to be a professional hockey player, but he’s building business knowledge along the way, taking classes through Algonquin College’s AC Online.
