Call it home field advantage. Moncion is a fourth-generation entrepreneur in Pembroke and the surrounding area.
“My family was one of the last few privately owned grocery store owners in Canada,” he explains.
“It started out with my great grandfather’s general store up in Cochrane, Ontario. He used to sell hay, change horseshoes, and whatnot. My grandfather Omer Moncion came to Pembroke to learn to speak English, and he started a little general store as well – mainly selling produce. Meet Jason Juurlink, an outdoor enthusiast, environmentalist – and devoted AC Green Team leader. Juurlink is a third-year student in the Bachelor of Building Science program. Prior to attending Algonquin College, Juurlink earned a diploma in Green Building and Renewable Energy and worked for five years in the industry. When asked why he decided to return to the classroom, he said that the College’s program offered the exact classes to match his interests. Read more >
Four Developmental Services Workers (DSW) and Algonquin College graduates have won a major Colleges Ontario prize.
Their health initiative took first place in the William G. Davis Innovation Fund contest. The Algonquin College group topped nine other finalists in public voting that ended on Nov. 5. Their $15,000 victory was announced Sunday by Colleges Ontario. Read more >
