Strengthening connections: Algonquin College at Ottawa Aboriginal Career Fair

On Thursday, Oct. 23, Human Resource members from Talent Acquisition and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) proudlyAlgonquin College at Indigenous Career Fair represented Algonquin College at the annual Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition Career Fair, reaffirming our commitment to Indigenous inclusion and community engagement and marks an important step forward in advancing our Indigenous Recruitment Strategic Plan through authentic relationship-building and shared learning.

This year, our booth was more than just a recruitment space. It was a vibrant reflection of Indigenous values and the diverse opportunities available at Algonquin College. Designed to foster unity, equality and the power of storytelling, the space encouraged open dialogue, meaningful relationship-building and a true sense of belonging.

Visitors engaged with interactive technology, including iPads showcasing inspiring journeys of Indigenous alumni and a Kahoot quiz exploring Indigenous spaces, teachings and success stories. We were especially proud to offer recruitment materials translated into Plains Cree, Anishinaabemowin, and Inuktitut — reinforcing our commitment to accessible and culturally affirming outreach.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped bring this experience to life, with special recognition to Anita Tenasco and the Indigenization team. Your leadership and commitment continue to deepen our relationships with Indigenous communities and play a vital role in advancing our shared goal of building inclusive, high-performing teams rooted in respect and collaboration.
