Learners from the Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Science program earned first place for their project Nutricooks Mobile Application at the RE/ACTION In-Class Projects Showcase, held at the Ottawa Campus on Dec. 5. Available on iOS and Android devices, their application allows users to create and follow a tailored nutritional program based on biometrics, preferences and goals. Users can search for recipes by keyword, view ingredients or nutritional information and watch an instructional video.

Second place went to Mechanic To You, an Android application to bring mechanics to the user’s location. Taking third place was the project Ski Patrol Application, which tracks medical volunteer geolocations to supply adequate support in emergency situations, as well as events, volunteer and inventory information.

Democracy Worldview earns first place at In-Class Projects Showcase

Students from the first, second and third place teams celebrate their wins with Kristine Dawson, Philip Dawe and Jed Looker, coordinator for the Interdisciplinary Studies in Human-Centred Design program.

Learners from the Interdisciplinary Studies in Human-Centred Design program took first place for their project, Democracy Worldview, at the In-Class Projects Showcase, held at the Ottawa Campus on Aug. 3. The research project centred on how to prevent the erosion of trust in elections, as well as how inaccurate information can be addressed in the electoral process to build public trust. Second place went to We Vibe Phase 2, with third place going to AI Brand Recognition Machine Learning Project.

At the event, more than 50 student teams exhibited their applied research projects, ranging from robotics, artificial intelligence, fundraising, civic engagement and much more. The projects were created in collaboration with industry, institutional and community partners, bridging the gap between education and employment while providing a glimpse into the future of technology and the current state of innovation.

Smart Tenant wins top prize at RE/ACTION Showcase

The winner of Friday’s virtual RE/ACTION: Applied Research Showcase is Smart Tenant, a mobile app for a property management company in Ottawa to engage in better and continuous communication with their tenants.

Hosted by the Office of Applied Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the goal of RE/ACTION is to create a platform for students to showcase their hard work to an audience of their peers, faculty and community partners. Five project finalists were chosen out of 43 submissions to present to a panel of industry professionals during the live Zoom event.

Created by Mobile Application Design and Development students Karim Shaloh, Eric Shantz, J-C Castagne, Mohsen Qaddoura, Evan Liko and Sandeep Saini, Smart Tenant is a social platform for tenants in their client’s properties to communicate with one another. Team lead Shaloh detailed the team’s work over the past four months in creating an app that would help increase tenant retention, satisfaction and overall customer experience.
