If you are a non-commissioned member (NCM) of the Canadian Forces or an individual who is interested in military affairs, this online Ontario College Diploma program provides you with a comprehensive knowledge of the essential skills required to function effectively in the modern military or in large corporations. The diploma will focus on leadership, critical thinking, security studies, resource management, and communication.

Who is well suited for this program?

This program is well-suited to students who enjoy playing a leadership or management role within an organization; are interested in current and past political affairs; have strong work ethic and respect for legislation.

What are the admission requirements for this program?

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Applicants with an OSSD showing senior English and/or Mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission; OR

Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate; OR

General Educational Development (GED) certificate; OR

Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee of $50 (subject to change) will be charged.

How is this program delivered?

Delivery of this program is made possible through an affiliation between OntarioLearn, the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC), the Canadian Defence Academy, and Algonquin College. 

What is the cost of the program?

Fees for part-time programs are charged on a course-by-course basis and are published on each individual course page. For questions related to fees, please call the Registrar’s Office at 613-727-0002.

There is an application process for this program. Applications are available online at ontariocolleges.ca. A $95 fee applies

Can I apply for grants, loans or other funding?

This program is eligible for part-time OSAP loan and grant funding.

Can I receive credit for my experience?

Your military experience counts!

Military personnel may be eligible for exemptions within this program if they have successfully completed military training courses, have been posted overseas, and through their current military ranking.

List of courses and their availability can be found on Program Page

*Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC) courses (MAS1000, MAS1002, MAS1003, MAS2001, MAS2002) are completed online through the RMCC and on a part-time basis. Students must apply to the RMCC generally 1 or 2 months prior to the start date of the semester with proof of acceptance into this program.

Next Steps to Register

Step 1: Apply

Apply via the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) at ontariocolleges.ca and pay the application fee. You will be required to provide supporting documentation through Ontario Colleges to show you meet the admissions requirements.

Step 2: Submit your MPRR

 
After you receive your acceptance email, forward copies of your MPRR for review and exemptions of work experience to Lori Driscol, Program Support Officer, by replying to your acceptance email.

Step 3: Register for Algonquin College Courses

In order to take any of the RMC courses, you must complete at least two of the Algonquin courses first. You can view the required courses on the program course list. To register:

  1. Click on the course title
  2. Scroll down to view the next course offering
  3. Select your preferred start date and click “Register Online”
  4. Follow the prompts to “Sign Me Up”
  5. When asked if you have ever attended or applied to Algonquin College, select “Yes” and enter your student number
  6. Continue the confirmation process to make your payment and complete your registration

Alternatively, you can register and pay for courses through the Registrar’s Office over the phone, (613) 727-0002, Toll-free: 1-800-565-GRAD (4723).

NOTE: in-person service is not currently available due to the pandemic. In-person registration will resume when the college reopens for in-person activity.

Step 4: Register for RMC Courses

After you have completed the minimum two courses, contact Lori Driscol, Program Support Officer, at driscol@algonquincollege.com, for the next steps to register in your RMC courses.

Note that the course codes differ for the RMC and AC courses. However, these courses are equivalent:

  • MAS1000 (HIE208) Canadian Military History: a Study in War & Military History, 1867 to Present
  • MAS1002 (POE488) The Law of Armed Conflict
  • MAS1003 (HIE275) Survey of Technology, Society and Warfare
  • MAS2001 (POE205) Canadian Politics and Society
  • MAS2002 (BAE268) Introduction to Defence Resource Management

Step 5: Submit RMC Transcripts

After you have completed all RMC courses, request a copy of your RMC transcripts. Send a copy of your transcripts to Lori Driscol, Program Support Officer, at driscol@algonquincollege.com, in order to process your exemptions. There is no charge for these exemptions.

Step 6: Apply to Graduate

After all your courses are completed and you can see your exemptions in your ACSIS account, you can begin the application for graduation. Please visit the Receiving Your Credential webpage for step-by-step instructions to complete your request to graduate through your ACSIS account.
