Algonquin Hosts Provincial Marketing Competition

Algonquin
College, along with its
Competition Sponsor, Bell Canada, is hosting the 27 th annual Ontario
Colleges' Marketing Competition (OCMC) 2006 on November 16 and 17.
OCMC 2006 brings hundreds of highly-motivated
College graduate-level
business students and dynamic faculty together from across Ontario to
Ottawa to showcase their business talents and earn top awards for
teamwork and strategic thinking. Students will compete in several marketing
case-study
competitions, to be judged by marketing-industry
experts from
across Canada.

Small World, Big Picture – Expedition Africa
Project Launch
[September 14, 2006]
The Small World, Big Picture –
Expedition Africa Project was officially launched at Algonquin College on
Thursday, September 14, with a video link with Ben Webster, expedition
leader, from Cairo, Egypt. The Small World, Big Picture – Expedition
Africa Project will traverse the continent of Africa from Egypt to South
Africa. This expedition is designed to actively engage Canadian schoolaged
students, their teachers and their families with respect to the
Continent of Africa, its opportunities, challenges and people.

Algonquin College a Partner in First College Network for Industrial Innovation

In the first funding award of its kind, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation has awarded $3.5 million to 10 colleges under the Ontario Research Commercialization Program (ORCP) to help build college capacity for industry-focused research and commercialization.
Ottawa girls make their own movies at the Women in Media
Foundation Inc. Girls’ Television and New Media Camp

For
two weeks this summer, the Women in
Media Foundation (WIMF) is hosting a summer day camp at Algonquin
College in the Nation’s Capital. The Girls’ Television and New Media Camp
gives teenage girls a unique chance to work as camera operators, lighting
and audio technicians, and video tape editors as they script, shoot and edit
their own videos. The WIMF Girls’ Television and New Media Camp is
offered to 10 girls between the ages of 12-15
from culturally and
economically diverse backgrounds.

Algonquin College Launches Commercial Pilot and Aviation
Management Program with the Ottawa Flying Club

Algonquin College’s Institute of Aviation
Studies, within the College’s School of Advanced Technology, has
partnered with the Ottawa Flying Club to provide flight training and ground
school for its Commercial Pilot and Aviation Management program.
Algonquin College Proclaimed Ontario Hub of Excellence
in Nursing Education

The Government of Ontario has proclaimed Algonquin College a Hub of Excellence for Operating Room Nursing Education. This announcement emphasizes Algonquin’s position as a leader in nursing education and brings with it funding worth $500,000.

Algonquin College Opens Soccer Facility

The doors of Algonquin Students’ Association’s $5.4 million Soccer Facility officially opened today on Algonquin’s Woodroffe Campus. Algonquin Students’ Association President, Michael Barrett, and Algonquin College President, Robert Gillett, were on hand for the official opening.
Algonquin College Celebrates Photonics with Official Launch of Bachelor’s Degree Program

Algonquin College celebrated the successful conclusion of Phase I of Algonquin’s Photonics Education and Training (PET) Project and the official launch of Phase II, the Bachelor of Applied Technology – Photonics Program, at an event attended by business and industry leaders and government officials on February 6. Dr. Adam Chowaniec, Chairman of the Board of Tundra Semiconductor Corporation and Chair of the Ontario Research and Innovation Council, was the keynote speaker at the event. His speech focused on the role of science and technology in the future of Canada.
